GD Goenka University Sponsors Psych-Ed –India’s First Ever National Quiz Competition on Psychology

Organized by the Department of Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences at Fortis Healthcare, under the aegis of Dr. Samir Parikh, PSYCH-ED was the first ever national quiz contest on Psychology organized for students of Class XI & XII. The quiz drew unprecedented interest, with participation from over a 1000 students from 230 schools and junior colleges. Students from more than 200 schools across more than 40 cities, pan India participated in the quiz that tested their knowledge of Psychology and allied sciences. The contest was also keenly followed on Social Media by students from all over the country and abroad..

The quiz comprised of three rounds, starting with the online round on August 24 within the premises of each school, followed by six zonal qualifier rounds. The competition was fierce, with almost every zonal final winner being decided on the basis of a single tie-breaker question after a grueling two hour quiz. The top 12 winners from six deserving teams of the zonal qualifier rounds held at Gurgaon, Mohali, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bangalore were invited to the Grand Finale held in Fortis Memorial Research Institute Gurgaon on October 7, 2016.

The finalists battled it out in an intense, three hour competition involving crosswords, audio-visual elements, buzzer rounds, mind-boggling riddles and even a PsychED adaptation of the popular game Taboo. At the end of the arduous two month long competition, Bal Bharti School, Pitampura, Delhi was declared the Winner of PsychED, 2016. Along with a trophy, they also received a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and 100% tuition waver from G.D. Goenka University. The second place went to Sri Kumaran Children’s Home from Bangalore who received a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 and a 50% tuition waver from G.D. Goenka University. The third place was bagged by Daly College Indore, who won Rs. 20,000 along with a 25% tuition waver. The other three finalists were Maharaja Sawai Mansingh Vidyalaya, Jaipur, Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh, and Christ Church Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Jabalpur. All six finalist teams also won an opportunity to intern with the Department of Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences at Fortis Healthcare to get a first-hand experience of psychology as applied in the field of mental healthcare.
