School of Engineering, G.D. Goenka University organised an educational trip to Roop Automotive Ltd. Located in RozkaMeo Industrial Area, Sohna (Gurgaon) on 9th February, 2016. A group of 30 students of 3rd year B. Tech (Mechanical) and faculty members, Ms. ShakunPreet Kaur and Mr. Deepak Jain from School of Engineering visited the plant.
Roop Automotives Ltd. is one of the largest OEM suppliers of auto components like steering yokes, automotive connecting rods, automotive housing, differential housings, connecting rods, proportionating valves, special bolts, engine connecting rods, automobile housing, PTO and gears etc. They are an established name in auto components industry and have strong presence in tier-II segment of the industry. Over the last 25 years, they have acquired unique engineering strength and understanding of the complexities involved with the manufacturing of critical automotive parts. Their state-of-the-art manufacturing unit is equipped with the latest machinery that can fulfil all the requirements of the clients with precision. They have been certified with ISO/TS 16949 and ISO 14001 and as such follow the total quality management system (TQM).
On reaching the plant, Assistant General Manager Human Resources, Mr. Kaushik Chatterjee along with his team of three GETs gave us a warm welcome. Mr. Chatterjee gave introduction on the various manufacturing process used in the plant for manufacturing steering column yokes i.e. eyehole drilling , shaft hole drilling, boring, honing, facing, taping operations. He also instructed about the precautions to be taken by the students during the plant tour. Afterwards, the students were divided in two groups and the visit started.
During the visit the students also got an idea of various industrial engineering concepts including quality control, Poka-yoke, kaizen, skill mapping etc. It was an enlivening experience in which the students got a chance to get themselves familiar to the practical knowledge of the different stages of Manufacturing. This visit was to enhance the knowledge of students in spheres of manufacturing, production and quality control.The visit was an informative experience satisfying the curiosity of engineering students, where they could relate to the theoretical knowledge of the subjects to the practical application in industry.
