Clinical Activities: Visits to the Parliament, Central Jail and Police Station

SOL orgainsed a visit to the Parliament of India, the federal legislative body of the Republic of India, on April 06, 2016 to make the law students understand the importance of the Parliament and its functions. The students visited the Rajya Sabha, the Lok Sabha and the Central Hall and also got the opportunity to interact with the Deputy Director of Rajya Sabha, Mr. Narayana.

The students of the Class of LL.B (H), B.Com, LL.B (H) .BA, LL.B (H) and BBA, LL.B (H) visited the Sadar Police Station Gurgaon on 26th April 2016. During their interaction with the Station House Officer and other senior officials, the students were explained the actual working of the Criminal Procedure Code vis-à-vis the Police.

As part of clinical activity, the students of School of law also visited Bhondsi Central jail, Gurgaon on 28th April 2016. The jail Superintendent Sh. Harinder Singh along with Ms. Monika Dhawan, Director,India Vision Foundation explained the functioning of the prison to the students. They told the students that the inmates are given training in acquiring professional skills like tailoring, plumbing, pottery and making jute products which will be helpful for them to lead a normal life as law abiding citizens after their release from jail. Students were also explained about the special Lok Adalat system to deal with under trial prisoners facing criminal cases for petty offences and whose period of stay has overshot the maximum punishment for the offences committed by them. The students understood the practical application of criminal law in prisons by talking to the officials there.
