School of Education, G D Goenka University organized ‘ERA 2017’, a National Level Conference on October 06, 2017 on the theme “Role of Women in Development and Advancements through 5 Es: Equality, Education, Emancipation, Employment and Empowerment”.

The inaugural session of the conference began with traditional welcome and lamp lighting. The Chief Guest for the Conference was Prof. (Dr.) C.B Sharma, Chairman, National Institute for Open Schooling (NIOS) an autonomous institution under the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.Prof. (Dr.) B.B. Dhar, Former Director (Research), Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi was graced the occasion as the guest of honour.Prof. (Dr.) Shrihari, Vice Chancellor, G D Goenka University gave the welcome address. Prof. (Dr.) Reva Raina, Dean, School of Education discussed significance of the theme of the conference. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Tania Gupta, Conference Convener.

Over 75 research papers and articles were received from faculty, research scholars, school teachers, social scientists and students from various inter-disciplinary fields of liberal, professional and technical education representing prestigious universities and institutions across India such as University of Delhi, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi,

M D University Rohtak, C C S University Meerut, NCERT, NUEPA, IIT’s, CBSE, National Institute of Open Schooling, Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi, Mahatma Gandhi Anterrashtriya Hindi VishwavidyalayaWardha, Maharashtra, Manipur University, Allahabad University, Uttarakhand University, Panjab University Chandigarh, Panjabi University Patiala, H P University Shimla, Amity University, SNDT Women’s University Mumbai, and many more.

Out of these, 50 selected papers were read during the conference under various thematic technical sessions.

Technical Session I on ‘Education, Employment and Skill Development: Promoting Lifelong Learning for Women’ was chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Saroj Sharma, Professor, University School of Education, GGS IP University, Delhi.

Technical Session II on ‘Health, Safety, Security Issues and Legal Provisions: Protecting Rights of Women’ was chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Ranjana Bhatia, Principal cum Director, Amity Institute of Education, Saket, New Delhi.

Technical Session III on ‘Gender Equality, Emancipation and Empowerment of Women’ was chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Harjeet Kaur Bhatia, Head,Department of Educational Studies, JamiaMilliaIslamia, New Delhi.

Technical Session IV on ‘Role of Government, NGOs, Media and Research in women’s development and advancement’ was chaired by Dr. Gopal K. Thakur, Proctor, Mahatma Gandhi Anterrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Wardha, Maharashtra.

Prof. (Dr.) S. Shantha Kumar, Dean Academics and Dean, School of Law, G D Goenka University gave the Valedictory Address on the theme of the conference” Role of Women in Development and Advancement through 5 Es: Equality, Education, Emancipation, Employment and Empowerment”.

The conference concluded with presentation of the conference report and distribution of certificates to the delegates and participants.
