Guest Lecture on Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship is known to be a driving force behind economic growth in recent years. Some of the world’s most popular products and everyday items were created by entrepreneurs. They started off as simple ideas that needed a well-organized plan and funding to see it off toward success. There are wealthy business owners that started off with an idea and little or no money. It is a matter of studying your competition and willing to make mistakes in order to make your concept even better. Organization, planning, and use of unique resources in one’s reach can make a difference in getting one idea off the ground.We have been experiencing a boom in the start-up culture for a while now. Everyone is wanting to solve a problem, be it economical or social.

This is a good thing but are we doing it right? To focus upon some do’s and don’ts and to share some trade secrets with entrepreneurs a guest lecture on “Entrepreneurship” was organised by Dr. Deepika Garg, School of Engineering, GD Goenka University, on 8 February, 2017.The speakers were two young entrepreneurs— Mr. Swaraj Kishore of Swaraj Organics Pvt. Ltd. and Mr. Ankit Misra of Hungrubbs. Both are alumnus of the distinguished B-school, FMS.

The session started with introduction to“entrepreneurship”. How one should be passionate about making their ideas work. The duo discussed how starters need to have everything properly planned before start. The speakers also spoke about the prerequisites of starting a business and running it in a profitable manner. All this was explained by discussing start-up stories of Paytm, Fresh menu, Flipkart, Ola, Uber, Swiggyas well as their own journey. They also discussed different strategies which entrepreneurs are making to attract customers like free deliveries, exchange policies, discounts through their online apps, concessions on first order etc. Students wanted to know how to spot opportunities and how their education helped the young entrepreneurs with planning, financing and managing their businesses. They conveyed the importance of proper planning and structured learning through education. A short quiz on famous personalities was also well received by the students. The session ended with a question answer round.The session was informative and interactive.
