Industrial Visit to Sphaera Pharma Pvt. Ltd.

MSc. Chemistry students of GD Goenka School of Engineering visited Sphaera Pharma Pvt Ltd on 15th February 2017. Sphaera Pharma, situated at IMT, Manesar, Gurgaon, has established itself as a fully integrated drug discovery and development company leveraging a network of the scientific community with a network of disease understanding and commonality. Sphaera has established a patent portfolio that includes repurposing of drugs, a potential solution focused on cancer metastasis, methodology that allows for designing therapies using current drugs to address resistant cancers, and potential treatment for multi-drug resistant infections.

The objective of the visit was to help students understand what goes within the pharmaceuticals industry; and to provide a minimalistic contribution to the learning process of research and development in pharmaceuticals industry.

Students were taken to different labs, where they were explained about different experimental procedures and instruments. They got some hands-on experience with analysis of column chromatography and use of UV-vis spectrophotometer. Students also interacted with the Scientists, and Research Associates working in the Lab. They encouraged students to study well, understand the concepts in chemistry rather than cramming. Some of them also advised about career planning.

Followed by lab visits, the HR head along with the CFO, delivered a talk through power point presentation, explaining about what goes on inside a pharmaceutical company, their protocols, the procedures/steps to make and market a drug etc.

It was a good learning experience for students.
