Board of Student Activities (BSA) organized a “Know Your Rights” workshop by Josh Talks in association with ITC Vivel for students at GD Goenka University, Gurgaon on 16th January 2019.  It was conducted by Ms. Somya Singhal, Campaign Manager at Josh Talks who has been working extensively in the field of women empowerment by interacting with student communities across the country. ITC Vivel as part of its brand philosophy of Ab Samjhauta Nahin (No more compromises) introduced ‘Know Your Rights’ with the objective to change the collective consciousness through an increased perceptiveness on gender-sensitive issues; enable gender-responsive actions at a personal level and build confidence through the knowledge of rights. The key areas of focus for this educative workshop were:

    • Defining the need to know one’s rights and an introduction detailing Fundamental rights, the concept of gender equality

    • Equality – At Work and at Home which details the legal rights and framework for sexual harassment, POCSO, Domestic Violence, Divorce, Alimony and Inheritance

    • Cybersafety which includes cyberstalking, bullying and how the law deals with it.



The workshop highlighted the various legal rights students have in our constitution through an interactive presentation and activities. The sessions apprised the students of the various fundamentals rights bestowed upon them by the Indian constitution. It further educated the students on the latest acts and amendments around important rights governing them e.g, Section 377A, the Juvenile Justice Act, the Criminal Law amendment and laws related to consent and sexual harassment at workplace. The workshop also informed the students of laws regarding filing FIRs, arrest and detention and cyber safety. The highly enriching and interactive workshop ended with everyone taking a pledge to be an equality warrior and stand up for equality in mankind. The workshop not only inspired the students but also equipped them with the right legal tools so that they don\'t hesitate from voicing their concerns.
