Participation in National Forum on Youth in Disaster Management Organised by Vishwa Yuvak Kendra in Collaboration with Global Rescue Foundation

Benjamin Franklin once said “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!” To get sensitized about the dangers posed by natural and man-made disasters, and the steps that can be taken to mitigate the losses caused by them, student –teachers of B.A/B.Sc.-B.Ed programmes and faculty member of School of Education (SoEd) actively participated in National Forum on Youth in Disaster Management organised by Vishwa Yuvak Kendra, New Delhi in collaboration with Global Rescue Foundationon August 25-26, 2017. The programme was organized with the valuable support of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). It was attended by over 200 students from various schools and higher education institutions in India. Along with the Goenkans, other students and faculty from prestigious institutions of University of Delhi such as Shri Ram College of Commerce, Bhagat Singh College, Aditi Mahavidhyalaya; Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh; CISF, HIPA, NIDM, NDRF, NYKS, IIT Kanpur and SSDMA participated in the programme. Shri Neeraj Shekhar (son of Late Shri Chandra Shekhar, Former Prime Minister of India) Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha was the Chief Guest of the programme.

On Day One (August 25, 2017) the student-teachers gained insight in the disaster management framework and role of government and community, relief and resilience, disaster preparedness and readiness, use of science and technology in disaster management, flood and safety measures, earthquake safety and risk modelling. On Day Two (August 26, 2017) the themes for discussion and deliberation were human resource and capacity building, health and psychological aspects in disaster and innovative aspects to reduce and handle disasters. The programme concluded with certificate distribution and vote of thanks by the organisers.
