Participation in talk on – ‘Remembering Sardar Patel- The Iron Man of India

The student teachers of B.Ed. and M.A. (Educational Leadership and Management), School of Education, G D Goenka University participated in a programme organized by Vishwa Yuvak Kendra (International Youth Centre) which is one of the pioneering Non- Governmental Organizations in India involved in empowering the youth of the country. Dr. Tania Gupta, Assistant Professor, School of Education (School of Education.), G D Goenka University accompanied the student teachers for the programme. The seminar on “Remembering Sardar Patel- Iron Man of India” was organized in the auditorium at Vishwa Yuvak (VYK) on March 21, 2017. On the occasion, eminent speakers across various sectors shared their views on The Iron Man of India, highlighting the role of Sardar Patel in the national integration of India and political unification of the princely states in India.Dr. Mahesh Sharma. Department of Social Welfare, Government of NCT Delhi focused on the role of the youth on nation building. He stressed that Sardar Patel was instrumental in fighting for self- rule, launching the Satyagraha movements in Gujarat and the Quit India Movement. Dr. Sanjeev Tiwari, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Maharaja Agrasen College, University of Delhi, highlighted the strategic role played by Sardar Patel in the formation of the Constitution of India. Sh. S.M Tarun, Trustee of Sardar Vallabhai Patel Smarak Trust, New Delhi focussed the role of Sardar Patel in agricultural development. He stressed on the need for village development and agrarian growth in the present times as twin measures for ‘real development’ of India.

In the youth panel discussion many students from various universities such as Jawahar lal Nehru University, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and University of Delhi expressed their viewpoints on themes such as contribution of Sardar Patel in Peasant movement during the freedom struggle and its relevance in the present context, his role in communal harmony and his spirit of patriotism in the freedom movement. The student teachers of School of Education., G D Goenka University participated in the question- answer session during the discussion. Ms. Disha (B.Ed. student teacher) presented a patriotic song during the programme. All student teachers of School of Education took part in the quiz competition on Sardar Patel and were awarded with motivational books on Swami Vivekanand and on various freedom fighters of India. The programme was extremely beneficial for the student teachers of School of Education as they got an opportunity to hear and interact with eminent speakers on the life of Sardar Patel and his unique contribution to India.
