School of Education, G D Goenka University organised an excursion to India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC), Lodhi Road on October 11, 2017 on the occasion of ‘International Girl Child Day’. The International Day of the Girl Child is a United Nations (UN) observance that promotes girls’ rights and highlights gender in equalities that remain between girls and boys.

The student –teachers actively participated in the events and volunteered along with IICC officials in making the event a huge success.The main theme highlighted during the programme was that ‘Equal Access to Opportunity Equals to Women Empowerment’. The programme was held to honour and felicitate successful women who had achieved milestones in their respective fields with strong grit, determination and unwavering commitment.



Student-teachers of SoEd volunteered in registration, escorting duties and undertook the responsibility of managing the entire event. The programme began with the National Anthem and was followed by ‘kanyaabhishek’ of little girls dressed in colourful attires portraying women power.



The Chief Guest of the programme Smt. Mridula Sinha, Governor, State of Goa, India addressed the gathering by highlighting the power of women to transform and nurture. This was followed by a panel discussion between the experts invited for the programme and the audience.



The programme was honoured by the presence of renowned women such Ms. D. Roopa (IPS), Ms.Supriya Sahu (IAS), Ms. Sangeeta Gupta (IRS), Dr. S. I Padmavati (First Woman Cardiologist of India), Ms. Mridula Garg (Author & Sahitya Academy Awardee), Ms. Mrinal Pandey (Senior Journalist, Author), Ms. Kirti Kothari (Actor), Ms. Chhaya Ganguly (Ghazal Singer, National Film Award, 1979), Ms. Mitali Raj(Captain, Indian Cricket Team), Ms. Madhu Jain (Textile Conservationist & Craft Revivalist), Dr. Rama Sharma (Principal, Hansraj College), Ms. Babita Malhotra (Vice President, DCB Bank), Ms. Shayara Bano (Crusader against Triple Talaq) and Ms. Meenakshi Arora (Senior Advocate, Supreme Court). They discussed their success stories and failures they encountered during their journey.
