Fashion Design students along with Koshalpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor from SoFD visited Dastkar “The Summer Weaves” exhibition, to witness inspirational display of weaving techniques from across India on 19 April 2017 at Nature Bazar, Chhattarpur, New Delhi.



The summer weaves exhibition featured different traditional techniques like Dabu, Bagru, Ajrakh, Akola, Bagh & Sanganer hand block printing Ari, Chikankari & Kantha embroidery Intricate tie-dye techniques of Rajasthani Bandhani & Shibori The delicacy of Kota, Chanderi, Banarasi, Jamdani & Maheshwari , patchwork from Orrisa.



It was an authentic collection of crafts and crafts people from all over India and the entire range of handmade, hand-woven and hand printed products. The focus of the visit was to understand the handloom fabrics, different weaves and unique hand printing techniques from India.



The students not only witnessed the heritage of Indian textiles but also the new intervention in design methodology and techniques. Student interaction with merchants and craftsmen helped them explore variations and significance of each traditional handloom. Craftsmen from Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh had large variety of hand embroidered suits and sarees that their women folk had make back at home.Every stall had a story immersed with its heritage which inspired students. A jacquard loom was also on the display offering live demo of the jacquard weaving.
