The National Curriculum Framework for School Education (2005) emphasizes on constructivist teaching- learning transacted through an enriched curriculum which provides opportunities to learners to connect knowledge to life outside the school. Additionally, the curriculum focuses on music, dance, visual arts and theater, based on interactive approaches and not instruction to develop aesthetic awareness as well as enable children to express themselves in different forms. In light of above, School of Education (SoED), G D Goenka University organized a workshop on “Celebration of an Iconic Cultural Figure” on April 27, 2017 from 2:00 p.m-4:00 p.m. in M.P Hall, Block A-1, G D Goenka University campus. The Resource Person of the workshop Ms. Rashmi Gairola, Assistant Professor, School of Management, G D Goenka University, stressed on the importance of dance and music in learning. She shared her passion for Kathak dance and also discussed the legacy of Kathak continued by the maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj. After a theoretical introduction about Kathak, the student teachers practiced basic dance movements and enjoyed performing the classical dance on music. The workshop was an enjoyable experience for all.
