Engineering Students at MSIT, New Delhi

Wednesday, 30th April: Five students of School of Engineering, G D Goenka University – Shreya Prakash, Richa Sarf, Sidharth Saini, Tanuj Jindal and Utsav Agrawal attended a knowledge sharing event and discussion on “Emerging Opportunities for Electrical & Electronics Engineers in India”.

The event was organized by IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and was held at Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology (MSIT), Janakpuri, New Delhi. Around 300 students from different engineering colleges/universities and studying in first/second year of Electrical/Electronics Engineering attended the event. This event focused to bring various significant development of industry with their rising demand of skilled electrical and electronics engineers.

There were guest sessions by Mr. Pradeep Doshi, Vice President, Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI), Mr. Bhanu Prakash, Field Application Manager, Microchip Technology, India; Mr. Narang N. Kishore, Mentor & Principal Design Architect, Narnix Technlolab Pvt. Ltd.; Dr. Sukumar Mishra, Prof. IIT Delhi followed by a Panel Discussion on Employability of Electrical and Electronics Engineers by experts from industry and academics.

Mr. Pradeep Doshi from ESSCI discussed different skill set required and various job opportunities available in the electronics engineering sector. He also focused on the industry academia gap and how industry relevant curriculum, industrial visits and appropriate workshops/trainings can help in bridging this gap. Mr. Bhanu Prakash from Microchip Technology gave an introduction to the embedded system and discussed the various challenges involved. Students were very curious to know the applications of embedded system in real world – mobile phone, automobile, medical applications, security etc. Mr. Narang from Narnix Technolabs gave a brief overview of “Internet of Things”. Dr. Sukumar Mishra from IIT Delhi gave a presentation on “Efficient performance of electrical and power system by intelligent electronics devices- SMART GRID”.

Finally, the guest sessions were followed by a Panel Discussion on Employability of Electrical and Electronics Engineers by experts from industry and academics. The experts discussed on the industry academia gap, problems faced by students in getting job in his core field and different job opportunities available. They also discussed that how training/workshop, industry relevant curriculum and proper mentoring can enhance the employability of students in electronics sector. Students took an active part in the discussion and showed interest in attending more such events in future.
