Measured Drawing at “Chai Garam”
November 2, 2015

Nature Study Module for Visual Art was planned for an outside class learning experience.

Students were taken outside, from their classroom to their GDGU campus’s lush green landscaped area. They drew and shaded the trees around them in form of quick sketches. Then they drew and shaded one single tree while studying its texture and tone.

This assignment drastically improved their observation skills. The students improved on their control on the medium of pencil/graphite.

The following objectives were covered in the exercise:

  • To move a step further from drawing and to learn how to shade and study details of nature.
  • To study texture, form and shadow.
  • To understand the effect of different pencils and the pressure applied.
