Surya is a graduate of NIFT, Chennai and also holds a Masters in Design from NIFT, New Delhi. Her graduation project incorporating understanding and interpretation of complex patterns expressed in the form of origami garments won the Best Design Collection Award & Best Student Designer Award.

Over the last decade, Surya has provided design & tech-pack services for brands like Naidu hall Naihaa, Auromodelle Atelier, Ultimate Fashion Maker and UK client MUUBAA for Men’s & Women’s Wear. Her love for Indian textiles is expressed through product development projects with Khadi Village and Industries Commission [KVIC] in the revival of handloom fabrics in Tamilnadu and Kerala. Her academic experience includes conducting courses on pattern making & garment construction at Pearl Academy, Chennai and guest lectures on sustainable fashion at Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore.

Surya has undertaken a research project for Marks & Spencer on Responsible Consumption and production in organic cotton apparels. Her research work invoked the possibility of system thinking & design thinking that can be applied in the fashion industry. Her work reflects minimalism, eco-fashion & concepts that go beyond consumer mindset.

Surya is also recognized for her creative contribution to underprivileged children through workshops conducted by Agaram Foundation, Chennai. She excels in Design research skills, Design Thinking, Digital illustrations & Technical drawings.
