GD Goenka University organizes inter-university engineering projects competition SPEED-2016

On 19th February 2016, School of Engineering at GD Goenka University organized an inter-university engineering project exhibition cum competition called SPEED-2016 (Student Project Exhibition for Engineering Design). In the final round, around 300-young innovators showcased a total of 100-projects from 33-universities/ institutions from NCR region and beyond. SPEED-2016 is one of the biggest events of this kind in entire Delhi-NCR region. It provided platform to engineering students to present their innovations to a larger audience in general and receive vital feedback to improve their ideas/devices further.

SPEED-2016 was jointly sponsored by Vijex Group of Companies (India) and Skill Gap Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (Australia, Singapore, India). Dr. Sandeep Nagar (Assistant Professor, GD Goenka University) led the event as Chairperson of this edition of SPEED.

SPEED-2016 started with inauguration by Mr. Rajdeep Sahrawat (Head, International Business and Strategic Initiatives, Public Sector, Tata Consultancy Services) and Dr. D. K. Jha (Dean Academics and Dean School of Engineering, GD Goenka University). During his opening remarks, Mr. Sahrawat illustrated the importance of innovation for a young country like India. As the exhibition opened for general viewing, students from various institutions watched with excitement, various exhibits and discussed engineering principles. Participants expressed appreciation for very young counterparts from B.Tech. students of GD Goenka University, who also showcased their innovative engineering ideas. In turn, young students of host institution derived inspiration from senior and more experienced students. The debates amongst students about merits and demerits of designs and engineering principles were a delight for teachers to watch. Organizers were particularly satisfied by the fact that participants exhibited healthy scientific spirit and exchanged ideas freely.

There was no registration fee charged from the participants whose projects got selected for the final round. GD Goenka University also provided free of cost accommodation to more than 40 participants at the university campus.

Experts Mr. Nischal Kapoor, Dr. Bhim Singh and Dr. Usha Batra judged various projects exhibited at SPEED-2016. Participants were excited to explain innovations and nitty-gritty of their projects and demonstrate working prototypes with the help of poster presentations.

SPEED-2016 ended with a valedictory cum prize distribution function where Prof. (Dr.) D. K. Jha illustrated the spirit of SPEED as being the platform to initiate a dialogue between college students to solve real life problems through engineering innovations. Cash Prizes along with Certificates were awarded to the best projects in various engineering disciplines as well as categories like best sustainable design, best innovative design, best cost-effective design and best project for a social cause. Prof. (Dr.) Sudeep Sharma (HoD, Civil and Mechanical Engineering, GD Goenka University) presented vote of thanks to each and every contributor for making SPEED-2016 a great success.

SPEED-2016 concluded with a hope that innovators will take forward the valuable lessons gained from the event and further their research ideas. It ended with a promise to showcase engineering talents at both national and international levels next year. So ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SPEED-2017!
