Webinar on Cloud Forensics

Department of Computer Science and Engineering at GD Goenka University has planned to organize series of webinars by experts of national/ international repute. In this series on Thursday, 3rd March, 2016, the department organized its first webinar on “Cloud Forensics”.Ms. Neha Thethi, an Information Security Analyst at BH Consulting, Dublin, Ireland was the resource person for this webinar. Her primary area of research is“Digital Forensics in Cloud Environment”. The audiences for this webinar were the students & faculty members from CSE & ECE department.

Ms. Neha started her talk by giving an introduction to digital forensics and methods of data acquisition. She gave few references of cybercrime based incidences & examples citing need for digital forensic in current scenario. Then she focused on types of Clouds, the different categories SaaS, PaaS, & IaaS ( Software as a Service, Platform as a Service and Infrastructure as a Service) followed by challenges in cloud in context of retrieving forensic evidences. She explained how these challenge multiplies from SaaS, PaaS & IaaS. She talked about architecture based challenges like;Diversity, Complexity, Provenance, Multi-tenancy&Data Segregation followed by Forensic Data Acquisition Challenges.

She also addressed the need for a strong cyber law and discussed Indian IT Act-2000 & IT (Amendment) Act, 2008. At the end she threw light on the areas open for research in the field of cloud forensics. The session ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Usha Batra, Head of Computer Science & Engineering Department.
