A Wine Appreciation and Tasting Session was organized at Le Cordon Bleu School of Hospitality in liaison with Sula Vineyards on 28 Jan 2016 to familiarize students with the production, types and nuances of wine. Sula Vinyards is at the forefront of the Indian wine revolution. Their award-winning Indian Wines are available in the best hotels & restaurants worldwide.

Ms. Zaheen Khatri from Sula Vinyards was at the campus with a presentation and some varieties of wines for tasting. She started the session with many questions engaging with the students and getting an idea about their knowledge of wine. She gave an informative presentation on the history of wines and viniculture, focusing first on terroir which is a set of all environmental factors that affect a crop’s epigenetic qualities, when the crop is grown in a specific habitat. Collectively, these environmental characteristics are said to have a character; terroir also refers to this character.

She later went into detail about different types of wine, how to read a wine label, how to distinguish a good wine from a bad one and how to taste and savour wine.

The students got a wonderful exposure and an opportunity to taste white, red and sparkling wine and understand firsthand the logic behind glassware and certain customs related to presentation of wine to a guest.

Prof. Y G Tharakan, Dean, Le Cordon Bleu School of Hospitality was also present with the entire faculty and everyone participated wholeheartedly in the interactive session.
