Presenting a Paper on Loneliness & Despair and Emerging a Winner

Paper Title: Emerging from loneliness and despair – Case study of woman’s experience of loneliness
Conference: 4th Annual International conference on Cognitive and behaviour Psychology – CBP 2015
Venue: Hotel Fort Canning Singapore
Dates: 9th – 10th Feb 2015

My Paper was of qualitative bend with an intent to understand the concept of loneliness from the case study perspective. For the paper I had a semi-structured interview sessions with the three women who in their marriage experienced loneliness, despair and how they emerged as winners in their own rights.

This paper shed some light on the marital conflicts and trauma that women face in Indian perspective and how they have to fight for themselves. The fact that we make marriage so significant in our lives and surrender to it completely undermining our self at times. Marriage in this context seems a misnomer, as in marriage we seek lifetime companionship where as in these three cases the experience was of loneliness and despair.

Loneliness may be experienced by anyone and almost everyone at some point of time in their life. One needs to understand the difference between being lonely and being alone, one may be alone but not lonely. In contrast one may be with people around and still experience loneliness. The paper focuses on how women have experienced loneliness in their marital relationship and how they managed to emerge out of the experience to lead a better life.

The paper was well accepted and appreciated by the international audience. The experience was really good. The audience was very receptive and encouraging towards the concept and Indian perspective. My experience was very delightful and both for the conference as well as Singapore as a country. Singapore offers great ease to be around the place, comfortable and at the same time exciting.
