School of Management, GD Goenka University has always been a pioneer in introducing new curriculum, experimenting with different pedagogy and encouraging its students to charter into varied territories. This ideology has resulted in our students becoming more innovative, risk takers and open to new opportunities. An important outcome of this has been an increase in the number of entrepreneurial ventures being started by our current students and alumni. While five students from its very first batch of MBA (2013-15) decided to take the entrepreneurial route, there are seven current students in the first batch of BBA Entrepreneurship (2014-17) who already are in different phases of their ventures. Some of the ventures started by students are as follows
The University also hosts an Udyami Bazaar, an annual event where the students learn to rightfully earn their goodies through a practical lesson in entrepreneurship. They set up stalls of various goods and treats, using their ingenuity and skills and sell them in a profitable way. This not only unleashes their creativity but also teaches them the importance of earning money through hard work and perseverance. The students of School of Management actively participate in the event with stalls ranging from DJ, flowers and gifts, tattoo, handicraft items, African food, perfumes, chocolates and U-wheels.
School of Management also started an exclusive 3 year Undergraduate programme, BBA Entrepreneurship. Rather than launching startups based upon business plans alone, BBA Entrepreneurship curriculum has been designed to build agile, high-value ventures using the lean startup methodology i.e via experiential learning coursework and real-life experiences. Through this series of courses, entrepreneurship students are encouraged to look at real-world problems, design a solution, test their assumptions on a customer base, iterate and/or pivot based upon feedback, and then finally launch their startups. This is aided by classroom sessions, market visits, customer feedbacks, mentorship by entrepreneurs, guest lectures by experts in various fields, sessions by banks, venture capitalists and also internship at organizations in the industry where the student wants to set up his start-up.
Further, the School is also offering specialisation in Entrepreneurship for its MBA Batch this year as well as several Inter-Disciplinary projects on Business plan making and venture creation for others schools. The School is also coming up with its 4th International Conference (ICON) in February themed Dream, Build & Grow- Unleashing the Entrepreneurial Potential.
