SOFD is committed to excellence and industry relevance of all its academic programmes. The Industry Advisory Board has been formed to help us achieve this goal. Through the IAB we intend to reach out to leaders in related design businesses and industry segments and request their involvement in an advisory capacity to help keep our curriculum and facilities contemporary and relevant. IAB members will strive to guide a new generation of design professionals to be industry-ready; and also help the new design school forge relations with the industry at large.
An accomplished businesswoman, Dipali Goenka is known for her dynamic leadership, passion for people, and a desire to empower women across the country. A Graduate in Psychology with a brief stint at Harvard, she pioneered the establishment of the Welspun design studio and retail initiative in India (Spaces & Welhome). In 2011, she took over the reins of Welspun Global Brands Ltd., which is today counted amongst the top three Home textile companies in the world. Dipali intends to make a difference in society. It is with this vision that she has developed the entire 3 E’s framework of Welspun: Education, Empowerment & Health and Environment. With education being a focus area for Welspun, Dipali has set up the Welspun Vidyamandir High School and Welspun Anganwadi in Anjar, Gujarat, giving an impetus to the lives of over 2,200 children. She led the ‘Women’s Empowerment Initiative’ through the Young FICCI Ladies Organization in Mumbai since its inception in 2005 till March 2007. She also headed FLO – The Women’s wing of FICCI, Mumbai enabling micro financing of women entrepreneurs and initiatives for the girl child.
Harminder is Founder and Managing Director of Wazir Advisors – a consulting firm focused on consumer products and services sectors. An Engineer and an MBA, Harminder has worked as a management consultant for last 15 years in retail and consumer products sectors (including fashion & textiles), of which 13 years were with Technopak (erstwhile KSA Technopak). In 2003, Harminder became one of the youngest Partners in Kurt Salmon Associates (KSA), US and later became the MD and Partner at Technopak from April 2005 till September 2009. Harminder is involved in corporate strategy, business creation, diversification and performance enhancement assignments across sectors for Indian as well as International clients. He has been instrumental in developing India entry strategies for many leading international companies. Harminder is also an angel investor as well as a primary promoter for many companies. He regularly speaks at industry forums and at leading management schools; and, is frequently quoted in the media on diverse subjects.
Pradeep Hirani is the Founder & CEO of Kimaya Fashion, a retail aggregator of fashion designer wear, retailing edited collections from over 180 Indian designers from over 16 stores. An MBA from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies and 20 years of managing fashion retail ventures, Pradeep has recently launched a designer-wear prêt brand ‘Karmik’ and is in the process of launching an e-commerce business. After Kimaya received a USD 11.3 million PE investment from Franklin Templeton (the only investment so far in the Indian Designer Business space), it is set to expand its footprint to tier-two cities. Pradeep is a board member of Lakme Fashion Week.
Anuj Prasad is the Founder and MD of Desmania – a leading multi disciplinary design company in the country, offering professional design services in product, packaging, graphic and retail design. Desmania is the recipient NID-BW Design Excellence award and several Indiastar awards for FMCG Packaging. It has been rated as a top design company in India by Businessweek (US). Desmania has diversified in the area of Automotive Design, with a large integrated design studio in NCR Delhi, with a unique clay modeling facility for full-scale cars models. A bachelor in Production Engineering, masters in Industrial Design (from NID) Anuj has been offering strategic Design solutions for over 20 years now. Anuj has been a leading voice of Design in the country. He has been a member of CII’s National Committee of Design, an advisor to the GOI on implementing the Design Scheme for the MSMEs and a jury member for the ‘India Design Mark’ awards.
Amit Gulati is the Founder and Managing Director of Incubis Consultants – most well known for their concept of the iconic 100 m long ‘Mudra’ installation at the new T3 terminal at New Delhi Airport. Incubis is India’s leading multi!disciplinary design firms with a diverse mix of Fortune 500 multinationals, such as Ginger hotels, Honda, Unilever and GE Healthcare as clients. Amit is one of the founding investors and design advisor at, Barista Lavazza and Eye Q. Amit Krishn Gulati is an alumnus of NID, a visiting faculty at The School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, IIT Roorkee, and The National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. Amit has served on the CII National Committee on Design for several years. He is the recipient of several design awards from organizations such as, the Plastindia Foundation, Indian Society of Lighting Engineers, VM&RD, Art Centre Europe, Sony Corporation Japan, National Gallery of Modern Art and the Ashok Jain Foundation.
Anuradha Kumra is the Creative & Buying Head at Fabindia Overseas for their Women’s business. A fashion and textiles professional, Ms. Kumra has over two decades of experience in Academics, Product Development, Retail Buying & Planning; a decade of which was spent at NIFT New Delhi as senior faculty member. She has worked extensively in the craft sector under various government initiatives, contributing significantly to craft clusters like Bagh blocking printing & weaving in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh under the Mega-cluster project; research project in Embroideries – Portugal, India implemented by Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), New Delhi; J&K for Embroideries (Crewel & Sozni work); Gujarat for rehabilitating the earthquake victims under CARE-FICCI sponsorship, North East for developing contemporary garments using traditional textiles, Chanderi cluster in Madhya Pradesh sponsored by UNIDO etc. She has taken several exhibitions to international events across the globe including the prestigious Oslo Museum of Applied Art, Norway; Metropolitan Museum, Manila Philippines, World Youth Festival, Havana, Cuba and Buyer Seller Meets in Chicago, New York & London.
Ashima passed out from NIFT winning `The Best Student Award` and in 1993 opened her label Ashima-Leena with Leena Singh, her sister-in-law. Ashima has been spearheading the designing for the label for over 2 decades and presents a unique, distinctive style and an original, traditional appeal in her collections. They were the first designers to join hands with retailers. They set up KAAYA – the premier retail outlet in south Delhi with Jewellery Designer Paayal Seth. They tied up with VAMA and KIMAYA for exclusive exhibits in Mumbai. Leena was also the official designer of Miss India 1999, Gul Panag.
Sumant Jayakrishnan is a contemporary Indian set designer, lighting designer, a scenographer, designer, installation artist and theater practitioner based in New Delhi. He also designs exhibitions. Trained in visual communication at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, he also studied theatre design and scenic techniques at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, London on a Charles Wallace Award. He received a Fulbright Arts Fellowship as a visiting scholar to New York University in 2002. His work spans the entire spectrum of design today, from contemporary theater and dance to exhibition, fashion, art direction for film and international events.
Mostly visible since 2008 as the President of Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) – the apex fashion council of India representing over 350 designers, and organizer of India Fashion Week, Mens’ Week, India Couture Week and Delhi Couture Week; Mr. Sethi is also the Sr. Vice President at Li & Fung (India) – a US$ 20 Billion MNC, operating a sourcing network across 40 economies worldwide doing Product development and design with reputed designers. He’s Member Board of Governors, NIFT; Member National Apex Committee, National Gallery of Modern Art, Ministry of Culture; Director, Board of The Handicrafts and Handloom Exports Corporation of India (HHEC); Member National Advisory Board for Ministry of Tourism; Director, India Exposition Mart Limited, Greater Noida Expressway etc. He is also the Managing Director, Alliance Merchandising Company and Sunil Sethi Design Alliance, representing the best lifestyle stores in the world for over 20 years.
Professor Mathur is the Head of the Department of Industrial Design at the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), New Delhi. An alumnus of SPA itself, Prof Mathus has been an academic since 1984 and a professional architect since 1982. His work includes design of Group Housing units, Hospitals and Health Centres, Schools and Colleges, Commercial Centres, Shopping Malls and Multiplexes, IT parks, Industrial townships, town planning CDPs, Urban infrastructure Projects and other Cultural, Religious and Administrative buildings. He is the winner of Nomi Bose Memorial Gold Medal (1984) and the best Project in Urban Bridges category, IBE Annual Awards (2005) for AIIMS Flyover. He’s a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Architects (FIIA) , a member of Exec. Council, IIA-Northern Chapter, an Associate of Indian Institute of Interior Designers (AIIID), a Life Member of Indian Hospital Association and an Associate of the Institution of Bridge Engineers, (AIBE).
