The aim of the LLM program is to provide a range of local, national, international and global themes for study in a critical legal perspective. It aims to provide considerable freedom to individual students to devise their own program by choosing from the varied options available. The program is majorly research based while offering students the flexibility of choosing research areas within the modules and for their dissertation. The LLM program equips students with skills for global research enabling them to adapt, innovate and apply their knowledge to international legal issues.

Programme Educational Objectives

  • To develop fundamental in-depth knowledge and understanding of: the principles, concepts, values, substantive rules and development of the Indian legal system and core areas of Indian law; the wider context within which the Indian legal system operates; the main institutions and procedures of our legal system.
  • To develop talented individuals with fully developed theoretical and practical knowledge of the law as well as excellent leadership capabilities to provide quality service to all, in all spheres of endeavor and in all circumstances. 
  • To encourage cutting edge research into the Law as exemplified by international best practice translating it into practical application to real and relevant problems in society, business, government and all aspects of societal life.

Programme Outcome

  • Train students to think, communicate, and practice as international legal experts with the confidence to practice anywhere in the world.
  • Lawyers who understand not only the legal and regulatory environment in which businesses operate, but also understand corporate governance, the principles of finance and accounting, and the economic and financial frameworks of transactions with an ability to deal with different types of legal issues and laws.
  • Develop the ability to analyze, articulate and write on the subject.

Programme Highlights

The LL.M course provides a rich intellectual experience that extends beyond the classroom. Not only is the curriculum both broad in the range of areas covered, and deep in the intellectual experiences offered to students in each area of study, but the opportunities for intellectual engagement when not in class are virtually limitless. The program is taught in a variety of formats, including seminars, lectures and small group classes by eminent academics and practitioners, and many offer an interdisciplinary approach. The curriculum for this new, one-year program is both broad and deep. An important characteristic of the LL.M. program is the flexible approach offered in fashioning an individual program for each student. Students must write a scholarly paper 100-120 pages in length which should have a well-developed research focus under the supervision of a faculty member. The LL.M. degree is awarded upon the successful completion of dissertation.

An LLM is an addition to the legal practical training as it gives in-depth knowledge and develops your analytical, critiquing and evaluative skills, which will be useful in your chosen career. Many students do a Master of Laws in order to further their education to reach the academic level that will facilitate them studying a PhD. Central/State Government. Jobs are also open to LL.M graduates as those with some years of practice can be appointed as Judges of various courts, as Attorney and Solicitor General, as Public Prosecutor and with legal consultancy firms or in international agencies.

Entry Requirements

BCI approved law degree from a recognized University in India or equivalent.

Course Structure

LL.M :

3 Modules are core and compulsory to earn 9 credits. Rest 6 credits can be earned choosing either of the given 4 specializations of law. Once chosen the same specialization shall be carried till the last semester
