GD Goenka University organized its first Student Research Committee on 29th April 2016 to assess the progress of the Ph.D candidates registered with the University. There are about 50 candidates registered with the university as its first batch of Ph.D scholars either in full time or part time mode. Students aspiring to earn a doctoral degree from GD Goenka University have to clear an admission test followed by a rigorous coursework where they are taught Research Methodology and Literature Review, which forms the research base of the Doctoral Degree process. During the coursework, the students are assigned guides who help them explore areas of research interest and identify a topic for developing the research proposal. Once the students successfully complete the coursework, they start work on their proposal.
Ph.D students from various disciplines such as Engineering, Management, Humanities, Law, Hospitality, Communication, Fashion and Design presented their research proposal to the SRC which comprised of internal and external experts. The research proposals addressed pertinent areas of Indian Economy, Technology up-gradation, Social relevance and personal healthcare. The range of topics varied from Big Data Analysis, Cyber security, search engine efficiency, wearable health monitoring sensors for elderly, fitness monitors, injury reducers for sports persons, sewerage treatment, self-reliance in manufacturing of aviation products, Laws related to Surrogacy, Khap Panchayats and changing needs of the society, Fraud Risk Management, Social media and its relevance, Designing automation solution for agriculture in India, sustainable interior design in Delhi housing and several others. The research degree programs at GD Goenka University follows a stringent process and each proposal and its presentation was assessed by a panel of experts and detailed feedback provided and future course of action with timelines suggested. Not all proposals which were presented could make it to the next level. In some cases, the candidates were asked to revise and resubmit the proposal. The candidates who cleared the SRC presentation will now work closely with their guides to work on their research area and submit a progress report every six months.
GD Goenka University believes in being technologically ahead, socially relevant and economically ethical in all its endeavors to be a responsible education provider. The research proposals that are being worked at are a sound proof of the same. The researchers are working on areas that are not just of academic interest but will develop concrete plans to augment substantial all round improvement of the society.
