5th May 2014 (B013 Lecture Theatre, GD Goenka University): School of Engineering organized a guest lecture on “Emergence of Information and Communication Technology (ICT)”. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Rohir Dubey – Senior Manager, Cognitel. Cognitel Pvt. Ltd. is a focused Telecom and IT services company with specialization in Consulting, Research and Training.

The guest lecture was well attended by around 100 students of electronics and communication engineering (ECE) / computer science and engineering (CSE) specializations. The main objective of the lecture was to familiarize the students with the basic concepts of information and communication technology (ICT).

Mr. Dubey’s lecture revolved around the introduction to different telecommunication technologies and overview of working of mobile networks. He explained in detail the steps involved while making a call from one location to other. He also explained cellular handover and effect of cellular frequency choice in mobile phone network. Mr. Dubey later discussed the basics of switches, routers, servers, firewalls, IP network, broadband access, fixed access and cloud computing. The entire session was very interactive and students asked their queries related to topics discussed.
