As student reaches final year, the important thing he aims for is final placements. With the growing competition, companies have become very selective while picking up candidates during campus hiring. They are looking for candidates who prove to be competitive advantage for their business. Few things students should keep in mind while preparing themselves for placement process are as follows:
Find out their area of interest
It is very important for students to know their area of interest where they want to excel in life. They should read more about the kinds of job profiles companies are offering to the prospective candidates and take a wise decision while opting. Their prime focus should be on job profile, remaining things like brand and package should be secondary.
Prepare your resume
A resume is the exact replica of your personality. It builds the first impression and tells about the overall personality of the candidates so it should be prepared in a way that catches the attention of prospective employer amongst the countless other resumes.
Prepare yourself for selection process
Every company has their own selection criteria. Most of the companies that come for campus hiring opt for aptitude and technical test, either written or online for short-listing the candidates followed by group discussion and interviews (panel or face to face) for final selection. Students should prepare themselves by practicing mock aptitude and technical papers available online. They can also request their placement department to organize a mock group discussion or interview sessions to prepare them for real time experience.
First impression is long lasting. It is said that interviewers make up their mind as soon a candidate enters in an interview room. Thus while going for placement drive, students should dress formally and wear blazer, formal shirts and trousers, boys should wear a tie as it gives professional look. Girls should not wear too much jewelry, perfumes or accessories. Keep it as formal as possible.
Get ready with academic documents and photographs
Along with resumes, all students should carry the photocopies of their academic documents starting from X, XII, Graduation and Post-Graduation as maximum available, extra- curricular certificates like sports, dance, drama etc. along with 5 copies of passport size photographs. Students must keep a copy of all academic and non-academic certificates along with passport size photograph as soft electronic copy.
At last, it is advisable for all the candidates to do proper research and gather some information before appearing in company’s process and also get clarity on any doubt/query during pre-placement talk. Reach the venue 10-15 minutes before the allotted time. Following these simple tips will not guarantee the job but surely offer a good performance during the placement process.
