Students and Faculty of School of Engineering, GD Goenka University are poised to seek solutions for sustainable development by using principles of reuse and recycle. Arun K Tayal, a budding Mechanical Engineer from G D Goenka University got this idea when he saw a lot of construction material go waste in the city. Arun mentioned,I devoted nearly a month to this project. First, I collected the waste from the construction site and then my professors helped me in processing it.Dr. Anindita Roy Chowdhury, his supervisor, stated that through recycling of construction site waste material like plaster of paris, wooden shredding, wall putty, wasted glass pieces, clayey floor polish etc., a designer brick was fabricated. An electrical circuit embedded inside the brick has been used to light up LEDs to add glitter to the designer brick which could be used to add aesthetic value to walls in domestic household, restaurants and clubs.

This work was presented in the National Conference, REDSET 2014, organized by GD Goenka University last week wherein Prof. (Dr.) Mehtab Alam from Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi (who was one of the session chairs at the conference) commented that it was a good idea to recycle waste for constructive purposes.
