A Faculty Development Program on “Network Security” was organized by the School of Engineering, G D Goenka University in association with Network Bulls, one of the biggest cisco networking training institute in Asia on 16th November, 2013.Ms. Shipra Kataria took charge of coordinating the entire event under the guidance of Dr. Deependra K. Jha (Dean, School of Engineering). Mr. Mohit Bhalla and Mr. Varun Pathak were the resource persons from the Network Bulls. The program was attended by 25 faculty members from School of Engineering and School of Management.

The Faculty Development Program is a series of activity conducted to enhance the skills set of the faculties. “Learning is a continuous process” and the faculties needs to equip themselves to the fast growing change in technologies and also the same can be translated to the students who are the real beneficiary of the knowledge about improved technology.

Mr. Mohit Bhalla discussed the real industrial level technologies in networking mainly focusing on cisco technologies.

The session started with a brief about the Network Bulls and the role they play in networking. Mr. Mohit Bhalla took them through a various levels of networking ranging from basic concepts, use and importance of networking in real world, Simultaneous configuration on cisco routers and switches including OSI and TCP/IP layer model, LAN and WAN protocols, DHCP, DNS, FTP, TFTP, IP services IPV4 and IPV6, Introduction to network devices routers, switches and hubs in real world, IP addressing, broad cast domain, collision domain for routers and switches, Static and dynamic routing, switching including STP, VTP and V-lans.

Mr. Mohit Bhalla also conducted some practical sessions on Routing and Switching using Cisco Packet Tracer and GNS tool. Mr. Varun Pathak, Ethical Hacker taught the concepts of Steganography and DNS Poisoning and also conducted practical sessions on these techniques.

At the end, Dr. Deependra K. Jha (Dean, School of Engineering) felicitated the resource person, Mr. Mohit Bhalla, by presenting a memento as a token of appreciation from G D Goenka University.
