GD Goenka University Collaborates with IBM to offer specializations in the area of Cloud Computing and Business Analytics in B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering Program

GD Goenka University (GDGU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IBM to offer specializations in the area of Cloud Computing & Virtualization, Business Analytics & Optimization, Mainframe Technology, and Cyber Security & Forensics in B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) program, to provide students with the needed skills & edge while seeking employment in the industry.

According to the NASSCOM HR survey, recruiters are looking for skill base trained in mobility, social media, cloud and big data. The top 5 tech skills in demand are: data scientists, cloud/virtualization, mobile apps, platform engineering and user experience demand. According to NASSCOM, recruitment based on pure technical skills has gone down drastically from 85% in the period 2000-2006. In 2006-2011, about 65% of people were employed based on technical skills and 22% on domain skills and the balance on soft skills. However, from 2011 onwards, hiring based on technical skills was down to 40%, with domain skills being pegged equally important at 40% and soft skills at 20%.

As part of IBM’s Innovation Centre for Education program, IBM will provide GDGU the design and delivery of innovative curricula integrated with a Learning Management System. The students will be awarded the B.Tech degree by GDGU. The students will be able to access online course material, be part of discussion forums and other online collaborative functionalities. IBM will be enabling the GDGU faculty team on these courses, along with webinars and seminars by connecting subject matter experts from the industry.

GDGU is a new age university guided by the philosophy that new thinking in the areas of teaching, learning, research and training are pivotal to making leaders of tomorrow. The University currently offers programs from undergraduate to doctoral level in various disciplines through its nine schools: Architecture & Planning, Communication, Engineering, Fashion & Design, Hospitality, Humanities & Social Science, Law, Management and Education. It has collaborated with some of the leading academic and industry organizations like; Politecnico Di Milano, Italy, Le Cordon Bleu Paris, University of California Riverside, Purdue University, University of Arkansas, Oklahoma State University, CLIT, UK, BSI, EMC2, IHG, NSG and KPMG and works with them in the areas of Curriculum Development, Faculty and Student Exchange Programs, Joint Student Project Evaluation and Joint Research Projects, knowledge augmentation courses etc. The University guides its students to develop their individuality, improve communication skills and develop in them an optimistic, enlightened global perspective.

The program in association with IBM will be available for students of B.Tech. (CSE/ECE) starting from January 2016 as part of the curriculum. These specialization courses will also be made available for the upcoming batches from the Academic Year 2016-17 onwards. IBM will support GD Goenka University with curricula, an online eco-system platform for engagement as well as IBM experts as guest lecturers.
