Venue: G D Goenka University Date: 13th December 2013 Time: 12:00 – 13:30 Hrs.
A session on “Hour of Code” was organized by School of Engineering, G D Goenka University in association with CSTA (Computer Science Teachers Association) on 13th December, 2013.
Hour of code is a worldwide initiative by CSED Week and code.org to introduce computer programming to 10 million students and encourage them to learn programming. It is now on track to be the largest online education event in history, proving that the demand for computer science education knows no boundaries. This initiative has also gathered tremendous support across the technology world, with more than 100 partners including Apple, Google, Microsoft, Disney, and others.
The objective of this session was to give students a taste of coding with an hour long programme.
The session was attended by more than 80 students of Computer Science Engineering programme. Ms. Shweta Mongia and Ms. Shipra Kataria coordinated the entire event under the guidance of Dr. Deependra K. Jha (Dean, School of Engineering).
In this session, students got to learn the basics of computer programming and computational thinking by doing some creative activities and interesting puzzles including Light Bot, Angry Bird etc. by programming visual code blocks. Through these puzzles, studentsgot a good understanding of several programming concepts like Repetition, Conditional logic, Computer Drawing, Handling keyboard Input, Creating apps etc. and computational thinking like Problem Decomposition, Pattern Recognition, Abstraction, Algorithmic Thinking and Automation.
Students seemed very much interested in attending such kind of interactive workshops and School of Engineering will continue this trend in days to come.
