Hugo Andre Borges, a IInd Year student of BA Psychology (Honours), has been selected for internship at Center of Accommodation for Evacuated (CADE), a department of the National Institute of Social Security (INPS) at Cape Verde, South Africa.
Hugo Andre Borges, IInd year student of BA Psychology (Honours) is doing his internship with Center of Accommodation for Evacuated (CADE), a department of the National Institute of Social Security (INPS) at Cape Verde, South Africa. It is one of the biggest national institute (Cape Verde) that provides the health/social/financial support for the state and private employees that contributes every month with 8% of their salary that will be refunded in the retirement and when they face health complications.
Hugoâ€™s internship period will be of two months (June-August 2016). Interning in the only reception centre of the institution out of the country he will be exposed to the extreme difficulties that the evacuated patients face, starting with the encounter with a new socio-economic reality. Those who have the necessity to be evacuated to Europe to treat their illness are generally struggling for life. He will be accompanying the patients as a Psychologist and help and the patients deal with the treatment that can make them violent for some diseases (chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, surgeries, etc.) Having a close eye on the patients daily life monitoring basic habits that can have major influences in the whole process is not less important. Things such as: sleep, eating habits, mental exercises, physical activities, hygiene habits and stress management are all things that can have influence in recovery for example. He will be also getting an opportunity to counsel such patients, under the supervision of a senior Psychologist and be responsible for the Social area of the cell.
