School of Fashion & Design has always believed in innovation and creativity. The industry-connect platform was thus conceptualised to have an interface with thought leaders to give students a real view of the world. The first speaker for our industry-connect platform ‘Design Directions’ wherein we’ll be inviting speakers from Industry to talk to our SoFD students is Mr. Girish Baluja, Director, Disruptive Innovation, Global Value Innovation Center of PEPSICO who will be speaking on this platform on Friday, 12th Sept 2014 between 2.30-4.30pm.

Girish has been responsible setting up the Global Value Innovation Center in India which has been mandated with developing disruptive innovation capabilities and delivering solutions to “Big Ticket” opportunities like reducing investment intensity and enhancing revenue opportunity from unserved consumers.

Girish has been with PepsiCo for more than 3 years, as Director. During this period he helped in setting up the Global Value Innovation Center which has been mandated with developing disruptive innovation capabilities and delivering solutions to “Big Ticket” opportunities like reducing investment intensity and enhancing revenue opportunity from unserved consumers. He has also successfully led the Low Cost Cooler project to completion, and is currently leading the commercialization effort and a new project on Low Cost Automatic Case Packer for Foods Plants.

Prior to joining PepsiCo, Girish spent 20 years with Unilever in various Manufacturing, Innovation, Integration and Business General Management roles. Immediately prior to joining PepsiCo, he was with Moser Baer India Limited (in CDs/DVDs/Solar Photovoltaic/etc. space) for 5 years as COO – Corporate, heading Manufacturing, Engg, Supply Chain, Sales & Mktg, Corporate HR & Corporate R&D. Girish is a Chemical Engineer from IIT Delhi, and has also completed short-duration Management Programs from Michigan Business School and INSEAD. He is fond of crosswords, exercise (running), bowling and music – and loves spending time with family and friends.
