On 8th October, 2015, the MBA Ist Semester students from GDGU visited India’s largest private container train operator Gateway Rail Freight Ltd, Garhi Harsaru in Gurgaon. The visit was coordinated by the faculty in-charge Dr. Gyanesh Kumar Sinha and Prof. Sanjay Kumar Mangla. The students visited the company’s Inland Container Depot (ICD) spread over the 90 acre campus. Mr. Umed Singh, Manager-Operations presented the students with the company’s overview and operations spanning export and import management across all ICDs.

During the site visit, the students observed actual loading, unloading and dispatch of the containers and also witnessed the company’s state-of-the art integrated rail services for export, import and domestic cargo. They were also introduced to the various terminologies being used in export-import documentation and the customs clearance procedures. The students then visited the export warehouse where they observed and learned the mechanized material handling of cargos and understood the concept of ‘palletization’. Based on queries raised by the students, the Manager sighted various career options in the area of operations and supply chain management as well.
