To signal the start of GD Goenka University’s very first academic year, a fresher’s party, REVA, was organised in the form of an informal welcome to its students.
‘Reva'(meaning ‘new beginning’) is an apt name for the event, marking the start of an academic session for GDGU. Comprising of various activities from talent shows to titles distribution and the selection of GDGU’s very first Mr. and Ms. Fresher, the fresher’s party organized by the Dean – Student Welfare through its Board of Student Activities (BSA) and held on 15th October 2013 was a grand success.
The student zeal was at its peak as they all enthusiastically celebrated. The theme for the event was Ink and Pink. Everyone came dressed in their best pinks & blues, fully charged and set to enjoy the program.Theme based titles were awarded to the audience for their creativity such as the Funkiest Hairdo, Ms. Pink, Mr. Ink and Ultimate Ink and Pink. It was an interactive event where both teachers as well as students were involved and had fun.
The talent search showcased 6 participants comprising of dances and singing performances. The winners were Parth and Akanshafrom the School of Engineering. Then came the announcement for the most awaited title of Mr. and Ms. Fresher of GD Goenka University for which more than 70 registered entrants were auditioned by our internal judges who painstakingly sifted through the entries to shortlist 10 finalists who competed for the grand title on Fresher’s Day. The finalists impressed everybody with their amazing ramp walk and witty answers to jury questions. Jayant Lambaand Naina from the School of Hospitality were awarded with the title of the very first Mr. and Ms. Fresher’s of the University. The judges for the evening were Prof. Arturo, Ms. Vibha Rave and Ms Suneet Soni; and the awards were conferred by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Raj Singh.
All winners were presented with a Woolmark t-shirt of cool-wool technology manufactured in Hong Kong, which is the latest innovation in the world of garments. As a token of gratitude to the jury the students felicitated them with saplings. Prof. (Dr.) Raj Singh addressed the gathering, applauding the winners and thanking the faculty members, students, and supporting staff for making GDGU’s first fresher’s party a massive success.
The DJ hour that followed made the last bit of the 2013 fresher’s welcome more enjoyable and memorable, especially with the lavish food served afterwards. We are keenly looking forward to many more such events and for Reva to continue to create more memories in years to come!
