Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language readable and beautiful. The arrangement of type involves selecting typefaces, point size, line length, line spacing, letter spacing and many more principles of design. Type Design is a closely related craft, sometimes considered part of typography; most typographers do not design typefaces, and some type designers do not consider themselves typographers. In modern times, typography has been put in film, television and online broadcasts to add emotion to communication.
In contemporary use, the practice and study of typography is very broad, covering all aspects of letter design and application, both mechanical, Digital and manual. Typography can appear in a wide variety of situations.
Words are the keys to ideas. Ideas which themselves are ever-changing, full of Life, and perceived by different eyes in different light.
How can words ever capture the life inside the ideas they depict? Maybe they can.
This effort from the students of communication design at School of Fashion and Design is an exploration in that direction.
IIT IDC has invited SOFD for an ‘Exhibition on Typography’ showcasing the works of students from Communication/Graphic Design. Four of student’s works will be exhibited at IIT IDC Mumbai, for this exhibition.
