School of Engineering organized an industrial visit to Huawei Telecommunications Pvt. Ltd., Gurgaon on 20th Feb, 2014 for 1st year students of B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering.

Thirty students accompanied by two faculty members – Mr. Mandeep Narula and Ms. Shipra Kataria visited the company between 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The purpose of the visit was to make the students familiar with the principles of Transmission Network, IP-Data Communication Network, Cloud Computing Fundamentals and Wireless Broadband Access.

Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. is the world’s largest telecommunications equipment maker and is headquartered in Shenzhen, China. It is currently serving 45 of the world’s top 50 telecom operators. Huawei’s products and solutions are deployed in over 100 countries and are supporting the communication needs of one-third of the world’s population. It has 20 R&D institutes in countries including China, US, Germany, Sweden, Ireland, India and Russia. Its core missions are building telecommunications networks; providing operational and consulting services and equipment to enterprises inside and outside of China; and manufacturing communications devices for the consumer market.

The students were first taken to the Seminar Hall where Mr. Rohit Dubey addressed the students and shared the profile of the company. He then briefed the students about how mobile network works. He also explained the use of switches, routers, servers, firewalls, home location register, BTS and BSC.

Huawei’s upcoming technological products like Virtual ATM were shown to students. Virtual ATM service will be introduced soon in India. Virtual banking’s web camera allows ATMs to act as virtual branches and offer services such as money withdrawals, besides processing card and Cheque-book applications in real time. Other products like E-Hospital were also shown to students. Huawei has launched the “Smart Hospital” solutions to facilitate exchange of medical information resources. Huawei’s “Smart Hospital” solutions also support abundant medical services, such as mobile healthcare, remote healthcare, chronic illness management, and healthcare cloud.

Students then visited significant labs at Huawei. Students were divided into three groups. Each group was taken separately and explained functioning of various devices manufactured by Huawei. Devices like Switches, Routers, line cards, interfacing cards, firewall, optical switch node, storage servers, and cloud servers were shown to students. The experts explained the working of all the devices manufactured by Huawei.

The industrial visit to Huawei Telecommunications was an enriching experience for the students in getting live exposure of various telecommunication equipments. The visit was indeed a learning experience.
