School of Engineering organized a half day workshop on Role of Optical Fiber, Broadband, FTTH in Digital India on 11th December 2014. The event was organized in association with IETE (Institute of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers) under ISF scheme (IETE student forum).

The workshop was attended by the 2nd year students of B. Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and B. Tech. Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) programmes. The main objective was to familiarize the students with latest trends and technological advancements in the area of ICT (Information and communication technology).

The speaker for the event was Mr. Shiv kumar, Director and CEO of Redefine Dimensions Consulting Pvt. Ltd (RDCPL). Mr. Kumar has 26 years of multi-dimensional experience in the field of Telecom and IT Business Management, Account Management, Network Operations, Network Planning, Business Development and Technology Promotion.

The entire session was very interactive which started with discussion on broadband trends in fixed networks and significance of OFC for broadband. He then gave a brief overview of OFC and broadband technologies followed by telecom network concepts which include technologies like 2G, 4G, GSM, CDMA and upcoming 4G technology.

The speaker then explained how planning and designing of OFC based fixed network is done in industry which depends on number of parameters like geographical location, number of users, performance etc. Finally, he concluded the session with discussion on testing of networks and industry best maintenance practices.

The whole session was very informative and helpful to the students. The students also got an idea of various career opportunities in ICT related to broadband, FTTH, telecom sector.
