To bring qualitative improvement in the standards of education and enhance the autonomy of higher education institutions in India, the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), Government of India is set to replace University Grants Commission (UGC), the apex higher education regulator, with Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) by repealing the UGC Act, 1951.
