Prof. Suku Bhaskaran, Ph.D (Monash University)

Professor Suku Bhaskaran has approximately four decades of global experience in teaching, research and leadership roles in the higher education and corporate sectors. Suku held senior full-time and visiting appointments in several institutions worldwide including Gilbert Chandler College (Melbourne University) and Victoria University in Australia; Pennsylvania State University in the USA; Cyma College of Commerce-Stamford College in Malaysia; and the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode and G D Goenka World Institute | Lancaster University in India.
Suku earned his PhD from Monash University Australia and BA (Economics) from the University of Malaya; both institutions are consistently ranked among the leading 70 universities globally. Suku also earned a ‘Graduate Diploma in Social Science’ from the University of Tasmania (Australia) and a Masters in Business (Research) from Victoria University (Australia), both institutions feature prominently in global higher education rankings for research and teaching.
Suku has authored and co-authored more than 100 scholarly research articles, research monographs, book chapters and other research outputs. He was a Consultant for the ‘Excellence in Research for Australia’, an initiative by the Government of Australia to assess and develop the research excellence of Australian universities; Expert Assessor of International Standing (IntReader) for the Australian Research Council, Australia’s peak R&D funding agency; serves and has served on the Editorial Board of several highly ranked international scholarly journals; has provided start-up and business development consultancy and bespoke training programmes to several small, medium and large corporations in many parts of the world including China, Myanmar, South Korea, Japan and Australia; has mentored several early career academics and researchers; has supervised several doctoral, masters and honour’s level student projects; has lead managed initiatives in course accreditation, course renewal and the introduction of new courses; and has developed and delivered executive and faculty development programmes worldwide.
In his substantive position as the President of GD Goenka University, Suku nurtures empathy to socio-cultural, economic and gender diversity; champions a work environment that draws on the strength of its socio-cultural, economic and gender diversity; prioritises the creation of an ecosystem that is devoid of workplace bullying; fosters the creation of a trusting, non-hierarchical and collegial work culture that emphasises meritocracy and a passion for scholarship; and handholds his colleagues to foster changes that would develop the University’s goals of achieving best-in-class teaching and learning practices, quality and intensity of research endeavours, global teaching and research partnerships and meaningful alliances with the community and other stakeholders; and operationalise the University’s vision to become the first choice destination for students, academic and administrative staff and visiting scholars.
