As part of the 5-day Faculty Development Program on ‘Art of Effective Teaching’ organized by GD Goenka School of Engineering from 23rd to 29th June 2016, first 2 days were dedicated to training on Outcome Based Education (OBE) and Accreditation (OBA). Prof. (Dr.) Deependra Kumar Jha, Vice Chancellor of GD Goenka University, who is a renowned Subject Matter Expert for Outcome Based Accreditation, was the resource person for this program.
It was a rigorous training program for two days where the participants (faculty members of School of Engineering) not only learnt about the Outcome Based Model followed by NBA (National Board of Accreditation) in India, but also demonstrated their gained knowledge by making presentation on the set of questions based on the topics discussed.
On the first day the audience learnt that, as India has become a permanent signatory of Washington Accord, the NBA accredited engineering programs will be accepted worldwide. As GD Goenka School of Engineering aims to be an internationally recognized technical institution, it is imperative that all the faculty members should be well conversant with the Accreditation process.
Keeping this outcome in mind, Prof. Jha initiated this first phase of OBA training, which covered the introduction to various accreditation models and criteria such as Mission, Vision, Program Educational Objectives, Program Outcomes, Program Curriculum, Continuous Improvement etc. The audience was divided into six teams and after the informative session each team was given a set of questions related to OBA.
On the 2nd day, each of the six teams gave a presentation on their understanding of the concepts. The 2-day program was quite interactive and enlightening. The audience has started to appreciate the relation between the processes& procedures being followed by them to the actual accreditation process and why a great deal of emphasis is given to quality assurance at GD Goenka University.
The program ended with vote of thanks from Dr. Usha Batra, Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering.
