– A Community Service Initiative by School of Education

“You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you” – John Bunyan.

GD Goenka School of Education is committed to undertaking various “community service initiatives” from time to time. The student-teachers of the B.Ed. course – Semester IV yet again undertook numerous creative and awareness activities on March 31, 2018.

Hygiene and sanitation awareness activities were organized with children at SUDHA (Society for Upliftment & Development of Human Being by Action) Gurgaon through discussions, use of flash cards, presentations and holding a colouring competition. Another batch of our student-teachers executed a moral storytelling session using masks at the Desire Society, a Gurgaon based NGO. They also taught the children the skills to make simple and vibrant face masks.

At the other end of NCR, the student-teachers encouraged the underprivileged girls of the slums to share their daily practices of maintaining health and hygiene at the Daanish -Ank Remedial Learning Centre, Kaushambi Ghaziabad. Origami activities were also organized to make learning joyful for the girls at Daanish India Foundation, Ghaziabad as well as Dream Girls Foundation, Gurgaon.

Role-play was also conducted to create awareness on personal safety. Children were shown a few animated videos such as those developed by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Delhi & CHILDLINE India Foundation, Ghaziabad to develop child awareness on ‘Good Touch’ and ‘Bad Touch’.

All young learners were highly encouraged in getting familiar with knowledge and presentation skills along with taking back moments of joy while educating themselves.
