Students of BBA, BCom, PGD and MBA programs of GD Goenka University were taken for an industrial visit to a PepsiCo bottling plant at Nuh, Haryana. They were accompanied by faculty members Dr. Kishore Morya, Ms.SudiptaSen Gupta, Dr.SumanShokeen and Dr.Suneel Arora. This PepsiCo plant is owned by Varun Beverages Limited, a subsidiary of RJ Corp., which is the largest franchise partner of PepsiCo.
During the industrial visit, students were exposed to the market environment of the beverages industry. The visit was conducted by senior personnel of Production, Quality and Technical departments. It started by first giving an overview to the students from viewing gallery of the fully operational PET plant; from where the bottles are made, then filled and finally packed. Then they were taken around the factory floor and shown the various tanks used to extract water from the ground and mix with various concentrates to make different drinks.
Then they proceeded towards to bottling operations section and shown how PET pre-forms were blown up into bottles. They were also given samples of the pre-forms. From there they proceeded to the filling and packing sections, ending the tour with shrink-wrap machines which create crates of beverages.
The factory tour was followed by a presentation by the Plant Head, Mr. R.K Singh and his senior team comprising of Mr.Sushil (Head-HR) and Mr. Chatterjee (Head-Technical). At the end a Q&A session took place which lead to enhancement of the knowledge of students about supply chain, employee relations, conservation and recycling practices followed by the plant and CSR initiatives taken by the company.
Overall the industrial visit was educative as well as thoroughly enjoyable for all the students. This exposure gave them an idea the FMCG industry, and provided a glimpse into the operations behind globally recognized brands like Pepsi.
