The post graduate diploma in Leadership & Governance is a post graduate level qualification targeted for students coming from diverse backgrounds. This course introduces key concepts of citizenship, community and community leadership in context of urban regeneration policies in India. The students will look at the development of civil society and the emergence of new forms of governance and community participation, with special reference to India.

This programme includes different types of leadership and the challenges of leadership that have emerged from the governance paradigm, the role of sector-specific paradigms of leadership in shaping leaders and expectations of their interaction with leaders from other sectors. The course will employ a varied pedagogical tools, simulation exercises, case studies, analysis of A/V tapes and student presentations.

Programme Educational Objectives

  • Provide students with an understanding of the common elements and differences that shape leadership in public, voluntary and private sectors
  • Develop the role of students in developing institutional leadership, their ideas of governance and their inter-action in context of the governance paradigm
  • Develop an enhanced understanding of the complexity of various institutions and the range of knowledge, skills and expertise needed by effective leaders
  • Apply the aforementioned knowledge to problem-solving and practical situations; enhancing decision-making abilities and conflict management
  • Develop a clearer understanding to articulate one’s personal leadership philosophy; increasing self-awareness and providing options for future

At the end of the programme, students will be able to:

Programme Highlights

Teaching is done through interactive sessions in the classroom through case studies, reading assignments, A/V aids and class participation. This course will present and allow students, as a cohort group, to discuss the major theories of leading and managing people and organizations. Students will better understand their own personality and that of their followers. The knowledge and skills of the students will be assessed via their abilities to modify their citizenship behaviour towards the society.

Career Avenues

One can develop leadership and governance qualities to enhance their existing or new career and join public, private profit and non-profit sectors at various leadership positions.

Entry Requirements

An undergraduate degree in any discipline from UGC approved university. In addition, applicants will also have to successfully complete Goenka Aptitude Test for Admission (GATA) and appear for a personal interview.
