MBA & PGD – New Batch 2020

G D Goenka University, Gurgaon

As mentoring plays a major role in the overall development of a student, all the students in G D Goenka University had been assigned a mentor. Day 3 of the Orientation and Registration Programme started with Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Faculty Member, School of Management, who addressed students about the role and importance of a mentor in students’ holistic development. She introduced the students to their respective mentors and briefed them about the mentorship process followed at GDGU. After this session, Prof. (Dr.) Anil Dawra, Proctor apprised students of the Discipline and Anti Ragging Measures to ensure clarity in all important matters as far as the maintenance of peace and decorum in the University is concerned.

This was followed by ICDL team interaction with students about its Skills Certification Program, for post-graduate students of School of Management (SoM), G D Goenka University. The ICDL program is one of the world’s leading computer skills certifications, addressing 16 million people across 100 countries. This session was conducted by Ms. Saher Mahmood, Director of Institutional Relations & Advocacy at ICDL India. On behalf of ICDL, she has spearheaded number of advocacy campaigns for digital skills in India with the objective of reducing the skills gap and bridging the divide between industry and academia. Ms. Mahmood, an alumnus of St. Stephens College, had worked in the Indian Parliament and New York Times, South Asia Bureau prior to her role in ICDL.

The details of academic best practices and applications of URKUND (Anti-Plagiarism Software) used at GDGU were shared by Dr. B. Rajeshwari, Assistant Professor. Mr. Sunil Kumar, Assistant Librarian discussed at length about the library facility and the use of digital Bibliographic Databases available in the GDGU library.

After this session, the students were in for a treat. Varied ice-breaking team activities had been lined up for them. The session was introduced by Dr. Deepti Wadera, Associate Professor and Area Chair of Marketing & Entrepreneurship and conducted by Dr. Swati Sisodia and Dr. Suman Dahiya, faculty members of (SoM). There were two phases to this session. In Phase 1 the students were asked to introduce themselves by their name to the audience and liken their characteristics to any bird or animal. In Phase 2, each student had to relate two facts about themselves and one lie. It was left to a group of other students to detect which statement was incorrect. The activities had been designed to entertain the students after three days of intensive orientation sessions and to help them get acquainted with each other. The second half of the day was dedicated to the last leg of registration and document verification of the students.

The new batch of Post-Graduate and MBA students were exhilarated and enthusiastic about starting their higher educational journey in SoM, GDGU. Their feedback revealed that they truly consider it as a place that focuses on the pursuit of excellence in all the activities undertaken and that its excellent Faculty Team is dedicated to the overall development of each student encompassing curricular, co-curricular extra-curricular activities.
