With the liberalization of the economy and the emergence of Information Technology Industry, India has entered a new growth scenario backed by new opportunities, strong fundamentals and commendable growth in the past years. One such initiative was taken by the Ministry of Railways under the Eleventh Five Year Plan (2007-2012) to construct a new Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) with the focus area of upgrading of transport technology, increase in productivity and reduction in unit transportation cost. DFCCL has been designated as a “special purpose vehicle” and has been created to undertake the planning & development, mobilization of financial resources and construction, maintenance and operation of the Dedicated Freight Corridors. DFC links four metropolitan cities namely Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, commonly known as the golden quadrilateral.
This fruitful experience and direct industry interface has immensely helps the students in understanding the operational highlights of the project that will back the economic development of India.
