Agastya International Foundation in partnership with Synopsys organized Anveshana 2016 for NCR-Delhi Region. The entire process of participation started around May, 2015. Students from Engineering Institutes were invited to participate and showcase their projects. Anveshana is an initiative to bridge the gap between schools and engineering institutes and to nurture creativity and facilitate mentoring. After submission of Abstract and review of the projects by eminent persons from various science and technical domains, four of the projects submitted by students from School of Engineering, GD Goenka University got selected for the final round of the event.In total, 25 projects were selected in Delhi-NCR for the final round. Since then, the students were developing their projects and also mentoring government school students. This initiative was mainly taken by Agastya International Foundation to spark the curiosity of science in school students. In the process, it led to innovation and instilled confidence in B. Tech. students to develop technical projects and mentor young minds. Confidence in school students were also boosted up, as they were able to learn critical technical concepts through practical exposure.

The final day of the Event was 10th and 11th February, 2016. It was held at National Science Centre, New Delhi. Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India inaugurated the event. Among the other dignitaries on dais, there was Dr. V. K. Aatre, Padma Vibhushan, scientist and former Head of DRDO and Shri D. Rama Sharma, Director, National Science Centre, New Delhi.

During the course of the two-day event, school students from different parts of NCR visited the Exhibition and Fair. It felt good to see the school students mentored by our B.Tech. students demonstrating their respective projects to the visitors who ranged from school students to eminent people from different science and technical organizations.

Pooja Yadav and Monty Khatana fabricated cost effective LED bulbs and taught two girl students from Govt. School about the fabrication. Mr. Ramandeep Singh (Assistant Professor, School of Engineering, GD Goenka University) supervised this project. Diksha Chawla and Mayank Bharadwaj,both from 2nd Yr. Computer Science Engineering developed artificial fibre that can be used in making surgical gloves, sportswear, etc. and also mentored two students from Government School in this regard. Dr. Priyanka Sharma (Assistant Professor, School of Engineering, GD Goenka University) guided this project. Arun Kumar Tayal, 3rd Yr. Mechanical Engineering and Hemant Joshi, 2nd Yr. Mechanical Engineering mentored two students of Govt. Senior Secondary School, Sohna on the Designer Brick made from waste at construction site. Sidharth Saini, 3rd Yr. Computer Science Engineering and Parvesh Taneja, 3rd Yr. Mechanical Engineering built up “Roshni” which generated light from gravitational energy and in the process of designing it, inert waste was reutilized. They also mentored two other students from Govt. Senior Secondary School, Sohna. Dr. Anindita Roy Chowdhury(Assistant Professor, School of Engineering, GD Goenka University)was the Project Supervisor for the above mentioned projects.

Through this entire programme, the students gained experience of not only developing their own technical skills but they also served a societal purpose of educating students from suburban areas explaining different technical applications, some of which addressed sustainable development as well. At the end of the two-day programme, the efforts of all the participants were acknowledged as they were awarded individual certificates and medals. Besides, the project entitled, “Roshni” received special recognition with a cash prize of Rs. 5000/-. It was a rewarding experience for the B. Tech. students when the school students expressed their interest to participate in the programme next year again.
