The School of Humanities and Social Science (SoHSS) organises regular Faculty Development Programme (FDP) to prepare the faculty members for their academic roles and to improve their skills in the areas of teaching and learning, assessing and mentoring students, research and administration. Following this vision, SoHSS organised a theatre workshop for in-house faculty in the second week of June. The two-day workshop—conducted by Gourab Ghosh, faculty of English Studies at SoHSS—made the participants aware of space and its intrinsic relationship in a performance. The skills required for improvisation, team-work and voice modulation were demonstrated to the participants through various theatre games and exercises.
After two days of rigorous workshop, the invigorated and enthusiastic faculty from different schools came together to create a short piece based on movements and sounds. The resource person, Mr Ghosh conceptualised the piece as “Explode Softly: My Body, My Spaceâ€. The short performance, based on the idea of a confined space where identities, individual expressions and dreams are suppressed and the body transforms from the abject, submissive and objectified to the figure of a rebel, was well appreciated by all and the participants expressed to develop the piece into a longer one to be performed soon. The FDPs at SoHSS are designed to bring in fresh ideas, energy and innovative pedagogy of learning and teaching.
