Students of various disciplines of School of Engineering, visited the CSIR-NPL (National Physics Laboratory) New Delhi on 27th September 2016. CSIR-National Physical Laboratory is one of the India’s leading Science and Research Laboratories and a Centre of Excellence in developing and applying the most accurate standards of length, mass, voltage, current, pressure etc. The laboratory provides facilities for Quantum Physics, Energy Harvesting, Surface Science, Thin Films, Radio and Atmospheric Sciences, Superconductivity and Low Temperature Physics.
The visit started with various laboratories like Low Temperature Measurement Lab, Heteroepitaxy Lab, Surface Physics & Nanostructure Lab, Pulse Laser Deposition Lab, Vacuum Standard Lab etc., where students learnt about ongoing R&D activities at NPL. Further exhibition based on scientific models on clean energy, clean water, digital India, health etc. were visited. The visit was very useful for the students as they were able to understand and correlate with recent trends and new scientific activities.
A group of students also participated in the Scientific Model exhibition organized by CSIR-NPL on the same day and bagged 2nd prize. The model displayed was a Human Powered Personal Vehicle (Efficycle) prepared by B.Tech. 3rd year students of G D Goenka University, namely Harshvardhan, Samra Iqbal, Rohit Kumar and Hemant Vaishnav. Visits to industries and research centers is a regular feature at GD Goenka University and here students are also encouraged to learn by making or creating. To facilitate project based learning the University provides seed money for selected student projects which results in high quality projects of such kind.
