Twenty-four senior editors drawn from seven newspapers attended the Editorial Leaders’ workshop conducted by Professor Sunil Saxena, Dean, School of Communications, at Chennai on May 14 and 15, 2015.

The two-day workshop titled “Writing for Digital Media” capsuled the new skills that print editors need to acquire if they have to make a mark in the digital era.

The topics covered by Professor Saxena included the craft of writing for digital devices, integration of content on Social Media platforms, and emerging forms of digital writing like live blogging and multimedia.

The newspapers, whose editors took part in the workshop were: The Times of India, The Hindu, Sakaal, Malyalam Manorama, Matrubhumi, Dainik Bhaskar and Prajavani.

The workshop is the second in a series of workshops that World Editors Forum and Wan-Ifra is conducting to train middle-level Editors in India and South Asia. The G.D. Goenka University Professor was commissioned to conduct the digital writing part of the programme.

The ambitious training programme, which is the first of its kind in South Asia, has been named Editorial Leaders’ Training Programme.

Mr Jonathan Halls, former Training Director of BBC, had kicked off the training programme last month by conducting the first workshop. American journalists will be conducting the remaining four workshops.
