CONVOCATION 2017

The Third Convocation of the G.D. Goenka University was venerated by all present, marking a new chapter in students’ life. The ceremony was held in the University open lawns on December 23, 2017. The event marked an important milestone for the University, with the Convocation of its Class of 2017. 381 graduands of Masters, Bachelors and PG Diploma Programmes from 8 different schools were awarded their degrees and diplomas.

The ceremony started with a dazzling academic procession led by the Registrar, Dr. Nitesh Bansal and members of Academic Council and Dignitaries. They marched to the enticing tune of the band played by the glorious 11th Battalion of JAT regiment of the prestigious Indian Army. This was followed by the National Anthem and Invocation.

The ceremony was graced by Honorable Chief Guest Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor Haryana, Mrs. Renu Goenka Honorable Chancellor, GD Goenka University and Vice Chairperson GD Goenka Group, Mr. Nipun Goenka, Managing Director, GD Goenka Group and Mr. Rohit Gujral, Director, GD Goenka Group. Also present were Prof. (Dr.) Srihari Honorable Vice Chancellor, Dr. Nitesh Bansal, Registrar of the University, Deans of respective Schools, University officials and Faculty members. After an adorning floral welcome of the chief guest, Mrs. Renu Goenka declared the convocation open.

Prof. (Dr.) Srihari, an experienced academician and Vice Chancellor of the University addressed and presented the annual report. He said it is his proud privilege to welcome everybody to the third convocation which is being webcast live and can be viewed world-wide. He said a young University has lived by its byline -Foundation to Flight, apt, for it is ranked the number one private University in North India by ASSOCHAM. Additionally, this year the School of Engineering is ranked 2nd among the emerging private institutes and School of Management the 3rd  emerging BBA institutes in the entire nation by Times of India. School of Medical and Allied Sciences was started this year taking the tally of Schools to ten. Today, there are 2400 students from 10 Schools and a total of 62 programmes being offered by the University.

He highlighted the great impetus on robust research programmes of the University. He further reiterated importance of both knowledge creation and dissemination exemplifying more than 200 papers being published and reviewed by the esteemed faculty in 2016-17. He drew attention on knowledge sharing being an important part of the University culture through enriching platforms and conferences, having earned repute in pertinent academic circles. He further said during last year four centers of excellence were established namely- GD Goenka International Center focusing on Internationalization, GD Goenka Research and Development Center focused on R&D, GD Goenka Technology Business Incubator encouraging Entrepreneurship and GD Goenka Center for Leadership and Social Responsibility all engaged in doing commendable job in the respective spheres.

University has been able to synergize with stakeholders to offer consultancy programs.  On one hand School of Management contributed towards  developing “Joint India-Africa Cooperation Framework on HIV and Health commodity  Security” as a part of UN program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) on the other School of Engineering took up Multivirate analysis as a tool in groundwater quality assessment of Mewat district. 

The University is committed to work towards social cause. It has a collaboration with a NGO called Udayan Care. Under their “Udayan Shalini” programme meant to identify deserving students for higher education 6 girls have got admission in Engineering and Law programs of the University with a 100% waiver in fee. Also, 126 students were provided scholarships under different categories amounting to over 1 crore 30 lakh rupees.

2016-17 saw several collaborations- School of Architecture and Planning entered into an academic partnership with Texas Tech University, NDTV worldwide for School of Communication, Medanta Medicity for School of Medical and Allied Sciences and Chartered Institute of Management Accounts for School of Management. School of Law became a member of International Association of Law Schools, USA and is also a member of IUCN, Academy of Environmental Law.

He applauded the Universities world class infrastructure, academic and sport facilities all for the holistic development of the students.  

He took pride in having 285 companies from various industries in campus making GD Goenka a preferred hub for talent acquisition registering a record of 90% placement for eligible and interested graduands.

He impelled the graduands i.e. alumnus of tomorrow to bring laurel to the University through their professional success. He also remarked congratulating the graduands that University is irretrievably connected with their lives now and though graduation perhaps is a one- time event but learning is lifelong!

The event proceeded with Honorable Governor Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki adorning meritorious graduates with Shri Gopinath Goenka award. In total there were 22 medals awarded -9 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze medals were given to graduates for their exceptional academic excellence.

Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, Honorable Governor Haryana who is also an eminent professor, politician and a renowned social worker addressed the gathering. He congratulated the University for its achievements, all, in such a brief period. He began with underscoring the importance of convocation for both the graduates and the University describing it a big day for everybody.

He accentuated the role of learning, knowledge and education in one’s life and how this is facilitated by their respective alma mater. He asserted that it’s not just knowledge but also the character, personality, temperament and righteousness which plays a significant role in development of a being. He expressed his happiness over the invocation describing it an integral part of the Indian culture. He further quoted shlokas explaining how we Indian’s pray for the happiness and wellbeing of not just self but every living being. He invoked importance of Dharma and righteousness in one’s life and concurred that these values are inculcated by the students of the University. Talking further of our culture he cited Haryana’s beti Miss world ‘Manushi Chillar’ who through her final answer won the ‘Miss. World’ title. He also quoted Swami Vivekananda who appealed to have 100 people of strong character through which he could change the country. Today he was happy to see 381 graduates passing imbibing the same values. Finally, he exhorted that the graduands must always remember the role people played in developing them as individuals. He congratulated them and wished them luck in their respective endeavors in life.

Mrs. Renu Goenka, Honorable Chancellor felicitated the Honorable Governor Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki expressing her gratitude for his august presence and invaluable direction and guidance.

Further, the degrees were awarded to all the graduands by Mrs. Renu Goenka, Chancellor of GD Goenka University, Honorable Vice Chancellor and the respective Deans of the School. This was followed by the pledge ceremony conferred by the Honorable Vice Chancellor and the Registrar. 275 of the graduating students were present for the ceremony while another 106 were awarded the degree in absentia. The ceremony was declared close by Chancellor GD Goenka University, Mrs. Renu Goenka.

The ceremony culminated precipitating glee and elation emanating brightness. The snowball effect could be seen in the entire University.
