GD Goenka University, recognized by the UGC, and a member of prestigious institutions like the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), and the International Association of Universities (IAU), organized the 8th edition of its Annual Convocation on 13 May 2022.

The Convocation was a grand affair and saw 1109 graduands being awarded, out of which 727 were graduates, 280 postgraduates, 54 Diploma, and 48 Ph.D. degrees in various disciplines The event also had a total of 71 awardees for the prestigious Gopi Ram Goenka medals which included 26 Gold Medalists, 38 silver medalists, and 7 bronze medalists. The highlight of the day was the conferment of Honoris Causa on legal luminary Dr. Lalit Bhasin, President, Society of Indian Law Firms and celebrity chef Mr. Ranveer Singh Brar, who has brought Indian cuisine on the world platform with his passion and expertise.

The event saw the presence of senior management from GD Goenka Group gracing the occasion which included Hon’ble Chancellor Smt. Renu Goenka, Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor Shri Nipun Goenka, and Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. S. Satyanarayana. The governor in his convocation address lauded the vision of Hon’ble Shri A. K. Goenka who conceived of the rural hinterlands of Sohna as a knowledge hub way back in 1993.

The Governor expressed his happiness at how the University has over a short period of time established itself as one of the foremost players in the education sector and has brought the spotlight on this region, not only in India but on the map of the world. The Governor acknowledged the emergence of the University as a Global Knowledge Hub and expressed his happiness at the way in which it has adopted NEP2020 and rapidly emerged as one of the leading players in the private education sector.

He had an important message for the students as he reminded them that as they step out in the world they need to apply the knowledge they have acquired here. He moreover nudged them to be job creators rather than job seekers. The Guest of Honour Shri Lalit Bhasin gave the graduands an insight from his own legal experience and significantly spoke of the role of the female graduands who in the future have to don multiple roles while pursuing their career.

The second guest of honor, Mr. Ranveer Singh Brar, in a heartening speech reminded the graduands that they need to carry forward the gift of education that they have received from the university. The chef also reminded the audiences of their role in deciding a sustainable world for all, saying “Change your plate, change the planet”, pointing to the need to adopt less water-intensive crops such as millets. The dignitaries congratulated the graduates and motivated them for a great future ahead. The Convocation was a grand success.
